Manchester United has been eliminated from European competition for the season after a disappointing performance against Real Madrid in the Europa League Round of 16. The Red Devils were outplayed by the Spanish giants, losing 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag's side struggled to create chances throughout the match and were punished for their mistakes by Real Madrid. Casemiro opened the scoring for the visitors in the 17th minute, and Karim Benzema doubled their lead early in the second half.
The result means that Manchester United have now failed to win a trophy in six seasons. It is also the first time that the club has been knocked out of European competition in the Round of 16 since 2019.
Ten Hag will be disappointed with his team's performance, but he will now have to focus on the Premier League. Manchester United are currently third in the table, but they are just three points behind Arsenal in second.
